A 14-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle in a Kensington school zone hit-and-run, and was transported in stable condition to a local hospital, Philadelphia police reported. The incident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 22, when the teen was crossing Frankford Avenue near Clementine Street, just before 8 a.m. As per FOX29, during the time of the accident, school zone lights were active and flashing.

The vehicle involved, a BMW, reportedly struck the young pedestrian during a period of standstill traffic. According to NBC10, the driver stopped briefly and exited the vehicle before choosing to flee the scene. The teenager, a student at Jules E. Mastbaum High School, was en route to school when this egregious act unfolded. Mastbaum's principal, David Lon, extended thoughts and prayers to the victim's family, as stated in a letter to the parents, and assured that counseling and support services were being made available at the school.

Police have since located the suspected vehicle and taken a person of interest into custody, but have not yet released further details regarding the investigation, as reported by Action News. Surveillance footage capturing the moment of the hit-and-run has been obtained by Action News, contributing to the ongoing investigation.
