A combative incident in Tempe has culminated in the arrest of a driver who, earlier this week, rammed into police SUVs. The confrontation between the suspect and the Tempe Police occurred on Tuesday afternoon and was captured on video. The footage showed the driver, after being found slumped over the wheel of an SUV, reacting violently as he commenced to strike the patrol vehicles encasing him. The scene unfolded near Scottsdale Road and Playa Del Norte Drive, as per a report from FOX 10 Phoenix.

Officers at the scene endeavored to stop the individual, initially by opening the door to his vehicle. Despite their efforts, the man shifted his vehicle into drive and assaulted both the marked vehicle in front of him, as well as the one behind him. In response, officers deployed a stun gun, however, it failed to subdue him. Subsequently, the driver took off, dragging the stun gun wires along the road until they snapped. During the incident, officers sustained minor injuries but continued their pursuit, as detailed in a release from the ABC15 Arizona.

The suspect's actions led to a broader investigation by the Tempe Police Department. Officers managed to arrest the driver the following day, though his identity and specific charges were not immediately disclosed. "Detectives arrested the suspect from the viral ramming video. The community is safer now that the suspect is off the street. Stay tuned for who he is, and what he was charged with," said the Tempe Police Department posted on their X account.

Details regarding what led to the initial encounter, and the suspect's motivations, remain under investigation. The Tempe PD has assured that updates will follow as more information comes to light, including the identity of the suspect and applicable charges. As for the officers involved, their injuries were reported as minor and they are expected to make full recoveries, making it clear that the situation, while volatile, did not result in severe physical harm to the responders, as reported by ABC15 Arizona.
