Data compiled by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development reveals that the scenario is cautiously optimistic in Tennessee. Unemployment rates remain below the 5% mark in virtually all counties despite rising in the majority of counties from the previous month.
Out of the state's 95 counties, 91 boast unemployment rates under 5%, Sevier and Moore counties leading with the lowest unemployment rates at 2.7%, an increase of two-tenths of a percentage point for Sevier County and one-tenth for Moore; Williamson County closely follows at 2.8% which was also a tenth of percentage point jump from August, and these three particular counties have remained consistent with the lowest rates in the state even from August.
On the higher end of the scale, McNairy County endured the highest unemployment rate of 5.5%, which represents a three-tenths uptick from August. It was trailed by Houston County's 5.4%, which, conversely, fell by two-tenths of a percentage point compared to the rate in August.
The state's overall seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 3.2%, which, while it saw an increase over the prior month, still sits comfortably below the national average of 4.1%. These adjustments cater to seasonal fluctuations that typically affect employment rates, though the detailed county rates do not reflect these seasonal adjustments.
