In the wake of the devastating floods that have left many Northeast Tennessee residents without work, the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development has launched Mobile American Job Centers (MAJCs) to provide much-needed services to the displaced workers. The initiative, aimed to mitigate the disruption caused by the natural disaster, offers a lifeline to the community by facilitating access to unemployment benefits and job search resources.
The centers, which are housed within Multi-Agency Resource Centers (MARCs) established by the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, boast air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, and laptops for individuals filing for state Unemployment Insurance benefits and federal Disaster Unemployment Assistance. With the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development staff on-site and poised for assistance, the effort is about delivering human support essential for navigating bureaucratic processes that, for many, can be as disorienting as the floods themselves.
According to the official release, two MARC locations are hosting the MAJCs: one in Elizabethton at 1749 Highway 19E, and the other in Jonesborough at 306 Forest Dr. The facilities are open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., and on Sunday from noon until 5 p.m.
These centers represent a tangible commitment from the state to flexible reach citizens where they are at a time when stability has been washed away by floods. Displaced workers can receive assistance in filing their applications and navigating the often complex landscape of unemployment aid. The Department's staff, having traveled with the MAJCs to these centers, are specially trained to address the unique challenges faced by those who have been abruptly cut from their livelihoods.
