Authorities have reported a significant development in a murder investigation stemming from a fatal stabbing incident that occurred earlier this year in Northwest D.C. The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch announced that the third and final suspect sought in connection to the crime has now been apprehended, as stated in a press release shared on the MPD's official website.
Following tip-offs, in the late evening of April 5, 2024, police attended to a dire situation reported in an apartment on the 1300 block of Peabody Street, Northwest. Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered 53-year-old Fasil Teklemariam inside his residence, suffering from fatal wounds. He was pronounced dead by D.C. Fire and EMS, and the investigation began.
According to details provided by the MPD, Tommy Whack, a 35-year-old from Hyattsville, MD, was detained on Friday. He was transported to the Homicide Branch and charged with First Degree Murder while Armed-Felony Murder after being brought into MPD custody, completing an extradition process from La Plata, MD. This arrest follows the capture and charging of two women, a 22-year-old from Bowie, MD, and a 19-year-old with no fixed address, both charged with similar offenses related to Teklemariam's death.
The case remains open, with investigators actively seeking justice. As the third arrestee moves through the legal system, the MPD continues to urge the public for any information that can shed light on the events leading to Teklemariam’s untimely death. The department has reiterated its promise of up to $25,000 for information that significantly aids in prosecuting those responsible for the homicide. In their statement, the MPD encourages individuals with knowledge to avoid involvement in proceedings but to call police at (202) 727-9099 or submit tips via the TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
