Three inmates housed at the Crockett County Jail in Tennessee have been indicted on attempted first-degree murder charges after an alleged attack on a fellow inmate. The incident, which took place on September 20, was reported after corrections officers responded to a disturbance in the bathroom area of Pod 151, according to Action News 5.
The officers reportedly found the inmates, identified as Brandon Carroll, Dustin Carter, and Cody Enochs, attempting to clean up what was described as a bloody scene upon arrival, with the victim found beaten and bleeding, he was subsequently rushed to the hospital to receive medical attention. The new felony indictments for Carroll, Carter, and Enochs come as each individual was already in custody for unrelated charges, information confirmed by FOX13 Memphis.
The Crockett County Sheriff's Department labeled the assault as "brutal", the investigation which was carried out by the Criminal Investigations Division, and led to a grand jury issuing a "true bill" that concluded with the indictment of the three inmates for Attempted First-Degree Murder, a Class A felony, as detailed in a release obtained by WREG News Channel 3. The legal process is currently awaiting their arraignment on these charges.
The specifics of the case, including the nature of the attack and the condition of the victim, have yet to be fully disclosed, however, the implications of the crime hold gravity within the confined walls of the correctional facility, raising concerns over inmate safety and the prevalence of violence, the existing inmates, Carroll, Carter, and Enochs still await their arraignment on new felony indictment charges.
