In a troubling incident in Trenton, police officers are now scouring for a suspect after two of their own were struck by a dirt bike during an investigation of illegal off-road activity, The Enquirer reports. The confrontation occurred on Tuesday around 8:15 p.m. in a wooded area near State Street and Poplin Place, close to the Great Miami River. The deafening din of engines drew the officers to uncover a group of dirt bikes and quad riders.

As the officers attempted to gain control of the situation, one rider maneuvered the bike toward them instead of complying with their orders. It hit them, causing both officers to tumble to the ground before he fled. In response to this aggression, the Trenton Police Department sought immediate backup from Butler County Sheriff’s deputies and Middletown Police, Local12 detailed.

Following this, a pursuit ensued, leading to the capture of two individuals, 23-year-old Matthew David Short Jr. and 19-year-old Noah Alexander Terrell Fleming, both from Middletown, who now face traffic offense charges, as per FOX19. While Short was apprehended on Carmody Boulevard, Fleming was found after a foot chase led to railroad tracks where he attempted to hide his dirt bike with foliage, only to be discovered with the assistance of a deployed police drone.

The Trenton Police Department underscores that further charges are forthcoming as their investigation progresses, and the quest to identify the main assailant of this incident presses forward. Meanwhile, they strongly appeal to the public for any information that could aid their search—inviting tips to be sent to them directly at (513)-988-6341, such as the info from The Enquirer.
