The capture of the suspects comes after a morning that saw Redwood City's Police Department respond to two armed robbery incidents spaced apart by mere 20 minutes at different 7-11 locations, one on 5th Avenue and another on El Camino Real. This operation was bolstered to successfully identify and later arrest the suspects by cross-referencing bulletins among police jurisdictions, including the Martinez PD's initial report on the robbery suspects.
A dispatcher from the San Mateo Police Department played a crucial role, leveraging databases to connect the dots after recognizing the suspect descriptions. Confirming the association between the Martinez bulletin details and the reported incidents in Redwood City, the new Automated License Plate Reader system provided the subsequent hit to facilitate the arrests, as per Hoodline.
Arrest details further reveal that the first suspect was found with a discarded firearm under a dumpster near Denny's restaurant, where he attempted to disappear into the surroundings before being intercepted by police. His accomplices also attempted to flee hastily, only to be detained following a short foot pursuit. One was found several blocks away, the second hiding in the suspected getaway vehicle.
