
Two individuals have been taken into custody following a shooting that transpired during an apparent illegal marijuana transaction on Friday in an east Las Vegas neighborhood, near a local park. According to statements made by Lt. Jason Johansson of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Section, the incident occurred around 4:22 p.m., and upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a man lying on the ground near a car, who had suffered a gunshot wound and was subsequently pronounced dead at Sunrise Hospital, as reported by KTNV.
As the investigation continued, detectives spoke to a witness who saw two men in dark clothing and ski masks running into a nearby apartment complex. Police secured the area, and the men later turned themselves in after contacting people inside. Authorities believe the violent incident may have started over a marijuana sale that escalated into a dispute or a robbery attempt, according to KTNV.
While the two individuals remain in custody for further questioning, their direct involvement in the crime has not been firmly established, Johansson expressed confidence in their lead, and he also expressed relief that no children were harmed during the incident as it took place adjacent a park where young ones were at play, according to KTNV.
