Two individuals have been taken into custody following an aggravated assault incident that occurred in Downtown Pittsburgh. The assault, which was reported to have taken place on October 1 around 9 p.m., left a man with significant injuries. According to the Pittsburgh Public Safety Blotter, officers responded to the scene at the Liberty Avenue and Stanwix Street intersection.
The victim was found with multiple bruises and lacerations to his face, struggling to breathe and communicate, highlighting the severity of the assault. Emergency medics transported him to the hospital in stable condition, his injuries were enough to distress any onlooker who might wonder, what level of disaffection, or desperation predicates such violence. Following the incident, a bystander provided police with video evidence of the attack, which depicted approximately eight people kicking and stomping the man as he lay on the ground.
In a brisk response, law enforcement officials located and arrested two suspects not far from the location of the attack, in Triangle Park. The identified suspects, Robert Richard, an 18-year-old from North Versailles, and William Yarbrough, also 18, from Pittsburgh, face charges of Aggravated Assault. The nature of the relationship between the victim and the assailants, if any, has yet to be determined by the authorities.
