Union City is bustling with anticipation for the upcoming groundbreaking ceremony of Gateway Park, a new space that promises to enhance the local community's health, wellness, and unity. The ceremony is set to take place on Friday, at 3:00 p.m. at 5375 Campbellton Fairburn Rd. Mayor Vince R. Williams expressed his enthusiasm about the park's potential to uplift the residents' quality of life "for years to come," as noted in an announcement by Union City's official website.
City Manager Sonja Fillingame mentioned the significance of the park, referring to it as more than just a recreational area. "Gateway Park sets a new standard for parks and recreation in our city. It's not just a park; it's a space that redefines how we connect with nature and each other, providing a blueprint for future community projects," Fillingame told the city's website. The park will boast a variety of features, including a pavilion, sculpture gardens, swing benches, both natural and hard loop trails, adventure areas, a boardwalk, and ample greenspaces.
The groundbreaking event is described as a community celebration with a formal presentation by City officials, and a ceremonial soil turning. Residents are invited to join the festivities, learn more about the project, and contribute to the park's development through their presence and participation. A strong sense of community drive is expected to be in full display, embodying Union City's vision of Reclaiming, Renewing, and Reimagining the shared spaces within.
