Last Friday, a man was arrested by Massachusetts State Police for reportedly trafficking narcotics on Interstate 91. According to MSP News, troopers identified the suspect as 33-year-old Deven Barrette of Sheldon, Vermont, following a vehicle stop for speeding and a previously known license plate violation.
The troopers who facilitated to eventually pull over the vehicle were Trooper Matthew Willhite and his Field Training Officer, Trooper Scott Boutell. They recorded Barrette driving at 90 mph in a 65 mph zone. Upon confirming Barrette’s identity as the same man previously stopped and charged earlier that day, he was arrested and searched. The troopers reported finding a device containing suspected Crack Cocaine and approximately 50 grams of suspected Heroin during the search.
In the aftermath of Barrette's detention, an extensive search of the vehicle brought to light a bag with items often associated with the illegal sale of drugs, and a large sum of money suspected to be related to narcotic sales. Barrette was later booked at the Shelburne Falls Barracks and had his bail set at $10,000 by a bail commissioner, details MSP News provided.
The charges against Barrette include trafficking in heroin/fentanyl, operating a motor vehicle without a license, speeding, and violating license plate regulations. He was scheduled to appear before the Greenfield District Court for arraignment following these charges.
