A Walpole warehouse that stores furniture intended for families in need has been vandalized, much to the dismay of Vlad Ivanov, CEO of Limitless Moving & Storage. In a report by CBS Boston, Ivanov expressed how the destruction included graffiti, slashed furniture, and the discharge of fire extinguishers throughout the facility. This act of vandalism not only defaced the warehouse but also compromised the donation ability of much of the furniture that was destined to aid the less fortunate in the community.
There's more at stake than just property damage. According to Ivanov, "Often time donation centers don't have the ability to pick things up in a speedy manner, and people need to move," he explained to CBS Boston. This senseless act threatens to funnel what could have been valuable resources for families exiting homelessness into landfills instead of homes. In an attempt to seek justice and possibly curb future incidents, Ivanov has offered a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest.
The base act of vandalism is not lost on the community nor the hearts of those working with the impacted organizations. The vandals, believed to be juveniles by the Walpole Police Department, leave behind not just the remnants of their destructive escapades but echo a sentiment of disregard for the less fortunate. "They don’t know it’s going to go to someone’s home who needs a couch, or needs a bed," Ivanov said in frustration, in a statement obtained by Boston 25 News.
This incident is not isolated, but seemingly part of a recent spate of break-ins targeting local businesses that support community aid organizations. New Life Furniture Bank, a nonprofit working in conjunction with Limitless Moving & Storage, was also hit recently, suffering the theft of a computer important for their operations. "Small business owners have a lot on their shoulders," Ivanov told Boston 25 News. "This is not something you want to deal with," Ivanov added. Authorities are investigating the likelihood that both instances involve the same perpetrators.
