The Philadelphia-based Wawa chain, known for its hoagies and gas station services, is expanding into Georgia with its first store opening on November 14 in Bainbridge, near the Florida border.
Wawa's expansion in Georgia will continue with plans for additional locations in Brunswick, Jesup, Hinesville, Pooler, Waycross, Tifton, Valdosta, and Albany. According to Savannah Morning News, the company aims to open over two dozen stores in the region over the next eight years, with another dozen expected to be operational during that time.
FOX 5 Atlanta further details that each new Wawa store is expected to employ about 35 people, potentially creating around 1,000 long-term jobs in Georgia as the company expands. Plans include adding up to 26 more locations over the next five to eight years, with three to four stores opening each year. Each store is expected to hire about 140 contractors and 35 employees, resulting in over 900 new long-term jobs across the state.
Wawa's Director of Store Operations, Nancy Dulaney, expressed excitement about the company's expansion into Georgia with the new store in Bainbridge. She emphasized Wawa's commitment to bringing fresh food, beverages, and convenience to the area and emphasized their aim to be a strong community partner.
