Drivers navigating the areas surrounding South Nevada Avenue and the I-25 corridor should brace for a brief snag in their usual route this weekend. Starting on Friday, October 18, the city has scheduled closures that will impact northbound South Nevada Avenue and the I-25 South Connector Road. The interruption is aimed at facilitating the moving of construction barriers, an essential step in ongoing road improvements in the region.
The closures kick off at 9 p.m. with the shutdown of the northbound lanes on South Nevada Avenue, stretching between Brookside Street and the I-25 ramps. This portion of the road is set to reopen to the throngs of rubber and steel before the I-25 South Connector Road shuts down. Both closures are intended to persist neatly to not overly disrupt the weekend flow, ceasing by 5 a.m. on Saturday, according to Colorado Springs.
For those finding themselves ensnared in this temporary web of construction, detours will indeed be in place on Friday night: Northbound traffic on South Nevada Avenue is being directed to take Brookside Street to South Tejon Street, from where they can proceed to I-25 South Connector Road and then back onto South Nevada Avenue. Southbound I-25 voyagers are advised to take South Tejon Street to Brookside Street and then proceed back onto South Nevada Avenue to rejoin I-25 South. Additional travel time should be calculated into evening plans, and seeking alternative routes is encouraged.
If Friday’s work should be delayed or interrupted, the officials have earmarked a backup window for the closures. The alternate schedule would look to begin on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 9 p.m. and is estimated to continue through the twilight of Monday, Oct. 21, ceasing at 5 a.m., ensuring that the work can be completed with minimal further disturbance to the public. This information underscores the city's commitment to keep the disruptions as fleeting as possible while improving the thoroughfares that so many use to navigate their daily lives.
