Weld County is on the lookout for public-minded residents to fill vacant seats on its advisory committees and commissions. In a call for applications, positions on the Planning Commission and the Community Development Block Grant Advisory Committee, among others, are up for grabs. Volunteers will have the opportunity to influence county policies on everything from land-use planning to social services.

According to Weld County, there’s an immediate need for a new member from Advisory Board District 4 to join the Planning Commission. The commission, which examines land-use applications and advises the Board of County Commissioners, is looking for a resident of Weld County who lives in the specified area, notably Evans, Greeley east of 14th Street, Kersey, and Gill. With the requirements being that they possess knowledge in matters about zoning and land use, those interested should prepare to attend meetings slated on the first and third Tuesday every month in the afternoon.

Filling another important role, the CDBG Advisory Committee seeks a representative from a nonprofit that serves a range of communities, including the elderly and persons with disabilities, to contribute to discussions on how the county allocates its block grant funds. This group delves into community development issues, allocating resources for a slew of proposed projects to uplift various demographics like veterans and victims of violence. Meetings are scheduled for the first Wednesday of each month.

“Advisory boards help us provide the best services to residents and businesses throughout the county,” said Weld County Chair Kevin Ross, as per Weld County. Individuals chosen for these roles will be tasked with giving input based on their expertise which is invaluable for shaping how services operate within Weld County. The call for volunteers stretches across multiple boards with diverse missions, including the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Board, Building Trades Advisory Committee, and others, who are looking forward to welcoming new members eager to foster personal and professional growth.
