The incident, occurring between Indian Hill Boulevard and Towne Avenue, was first reported at 4:27 a.m., compelling authorities to issue a Sigalert and shut down all lanes until further notice. While traffic was initially at a standstill, vehicles were directed to use the right shoulder to navigate past the scene.
Details on the individual involved in the crash were sparse, as information had yet to be released to the public. The blockage caused significant delays for morning commuters, amassing inconvenience and a formidable buildup of vehicles. In an update, the CHP advised those traveling westbound to consider alternative routes such as the 210 Freeway, 60 Freeway, Holt Avenue, or Arrow Highway to circumvent the area entirely.
Subsequent to the accident, by approximately 7:37 a.m., the CHP reported that some traffic relief was in sight as, "the far right two lanes of the freeway were open." This update indicated some progress in managing the situation and provided a partial respite for the bottlenecked traffic. However, commuters were still encouraged to steer clear of the area if possible, as the majority of the lanes remained closed and investigations continued.
In a tweet, CHP's LA Traffic account stated, "SIGALERT UPDATE IN CLAREMONT: WB I-10, WEST OF INDIAN HILL BLVD, THE HOV, 1, 2, 3, AND 4 LANES ARE BLOCKED FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO HOURS DUE TO A TRAFFIC COLLISION. THE RIGHT SHOULDER WILL BE OPEN TO ALLOW THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC."
