Colerain Township Police have apprehended Kenyada Hinton, a 37-year-old woman from Westwood, on charges of falsely reporting officer misconduct. Her allegations stemmed from an incident in June 2023 when she was taken into custody for operating a vehicle under the influence. Hinton claimed she was sexually assaulted by officers while inside a holding facility restroom during the processing of her arrest, WLWT reported.
Upon filing the complaint, bodycam footage was sent to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) for an independent review. BCI concluded there was no necessity to open a formal inquiry due to "the lack of evidence to support any criminal offense," as stated by the police and mentioned by WLWT. In addition, Investigators from the Colerain Township Police Department's Criminal Investigative Unit also reviewed the bodycam footage. They confirmed that no officers were in the restroom with Hinton during the time.
Following the procedural investigation, Hinton was brought in for another interview yesterday, where "she continued to make the same false allegations," according to Colerain Township Police. FOX19 notes that despite the previous findings, she persisted with the same accounts of misconduct. Consequently, Hinton now faces a charge of making a false allegation of police misconduct, a misdemeanor.
During her apprehension over the allegations, police discovered that Hinton had a loaded firearm within a government facility, subsequently adding charges of criminal trespass to her offenses. She is currently held at the Hamilton County Justice Center, as noted by all three news outlets. The handling of Hinton's initial complaint and the subsequent investigation highlights the due diligence undertaken by law enforcement to scrutinize allegations while balancing the integrity of all parties involved.
