The streets of Wilmington echoed with the sounds of justice this past week as local police apprehended a man following a vehicular chase. In a recent update, Wilmington Police detailed the arrest of 38-year-old Deshon Worrell who now faces a slew of charges, including drug-related offenses and possession of a stolen vehicle.
It all went down late in the evening on October 17, when officers from the Uniformed Services Division, patrolling the 700 block of North Adams Street, spotted a car previously reported stolen. Police signaled for the car to stop, but it instead sped away, prompting a police chase that, after escaping the area, the vehicle was later discovered near West 7th and Morrow Streets. With a quickness that belied the lateness of the hour, Worrell abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was captured shortly thereafter.
According to the details provided by a Wilmington Police report, the authorities did not just recover the stolen vehicle; they also seized a notable amount of drugs. The haul included 60 grams of crack cocaine, 2.67 grams of heroin, and 28 grams of marijuana.
Worrell is now wading through the criminal justice system, charged with a list that reads like a catalog of wrongdoing: Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver in Tier 3 Quantity, Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Deliver in Tier 2 Quantity, Receiving Stolen Property Over $1,500, Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal, Reckless Endangering (Second Degree), Resisting Arrest, and three counts of Criminal Mischief Under $1,000. In the aftermath of his defiance, Worrell was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and finds himself held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, with bail set at a steep $76,400, cash-only.
