A Worcester man has been arrested following reports of a house break-in on Alvarado Ave. According to the official Worcester Police Department press release, the suspect, Derek Ashley, aged 52, was taken into custody late Saturday evening after officers responded to alerts of a possible break-in.
Police were summoned to the scene around 8:45 PM last Sunday, October 13, after receiving earlier calls the same day about a male trying to break into homes in the area, the department detailed the situation of finding an open door and a broken window upon their arrival; investigators quickly identified Derek Ashley inside who apart from not being able to provide a legitimate reason for his presence at the residence, he was then placed under arrest facing charges of Breaking and Entering in the Nighttime To Commit a Felony and Vandalism.
Ashley, a resident of Fairmont Ave in Worcester, now faces serious charges following the incident while the actions leading up to the break tread a fine line between desperation and violation, it prompts a broader conversation about the measures homeowners must consider to safeguard their properties in neighborhoods regularly pierced by the specters of crime.
