Worcester Police Department officers made an arrest last month that has local residents talking about the ongoing issue of drug-related crimes in the area. On the night of September 21, police were called regarding a stolen vehicle on Southbridge Street. When officers arrived, they found the vehicle and identified it as the reported stolen car, discovering 35-year-old Chad Jackson of Clinton asleep at the wheel, according to the Worcester Police Department.
Officials reported that Jackson was taken by surprise as police turned off the running car and seized the keys, which roused him. After he exited the vehicle, the subsequent search revealed two loaded syringes and several small bags containing fentanyl. As law enforcement dug deeper, drug paraphernalia surfaced from within his backpack. Moreover, the investigation uncovered that Jackson was wanted for two active warrants, as stated by the Worcester Police Department.
The charges brought against Jackson are serious. He faces counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute Class A, Receiving Stolen Property, Use of a Motor Vehicle Without Authority, and for the existing warrants. Jackson's arrest underscores law enforcement's continuous battle against the distribution and use of controlled substances such as fentanyl, which has been linked to a significant number of overdose deaths nationwide. The vehicle's rightful owner was notified of the recovery, as reported by the Worcester Police Department.
