Worcester Police responded to Heroult Rd yesterday following reports of a shooting. According to a press release from the Worcester Police Department, a male victim with serious gunshot wounds was found at the scene. Despite medical assistance and being taken to the hospital, he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
Similarly, after the shooting, a man displaying suspicious behavior came into contact with a Massachusetts State Trooper. According to the same press release, the suspect brandished a firearm and fired it when approached, then fled the scene. This situation escalated later in the day on I-190, where the man reportedly attempted to disrupt traffic and pointed a gun at motorists.
The chaos unfolded on the highway when Worcester Police, alongside Massachusetts State Police, engaged in a foot pursuit of the armed individual. Amid attempts to carjack drivers, an altercation ensued which led to the suspect shooting himself after both a Worcester officer and a State Trooper fired their weapons. Transported to the hospital, he was pronounced dead.
Authorities have now connected the violence on Heroult Rd with the I-190 incident, concluding that the public faces no ongoing threat. With the investigation ongoing, led by the Worcester Police and State Police Detectives with assistance from the Worcester District Attorney's Office, they call for any witnesses with video footage or information to step forward. "At this time, we believe that the man from the I-190 incident is the suspect from the Heroult Rd incident," stated in the press release.
