Tragedy struck West Sacramento yesterday afternoon when a collision between a semi-truck and a bicyclist resulted in the death of a young man. The West Sacramento Police Department responded to the scene around 2:26 p.m. after receiving reports of the accident at Industrial Blvd. near Stone Blvd. According to a post on the West Sacramento Police Department official Facebook page, officers arrived to find West Sacramento Fire Department personnel already attending to the victim.
First responders were unable to save the bicyclist, a man in his early twenties who was pronounced dead at the scene. The police have confirmed that the semi-truck driver was cooperative, and they currently have no reason to believe he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The aftermath of the crash led to temporary road closures, which have now been lifted. The West Sacramento Police Department issued a traffic alert, advising drivers to avoid the area of Industrial and Stone Blvd. and to seek alternative routes.
The Traffic Unit is conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the events leading up to the fatal collision. The victim's name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
