A Tyrone Middle School student was shot on a school bus this morning in St. Petersburg. The incident occurred at the intersection of 18th Avenue and 49th Street North. The St. Petersburg Police Department confirmed that the injured party was a 13-year-old female student who was the only individual with a gun on the bus, which carried 20 students at the time of the incident.

According to WFLA, the student was transporting to All Children’s Hospital for treatment. No other students were involved or hurt in the said event, the police department stated. The bus was en route to Tyrone Middle School when the shooting occurred. The circumstances surrounding how the student came to possess the firearm are still under investigation.

The FOX 13 News report noted that paramedics responded swiftly to the emergency, and the victim's condition was listed as stable upon arrival at the hospital. The rest of the students on the bus were either transported to the school on a different bus or picked up by their parents from the scene. Police have not yet released additional information concerning the motive or background of the shooting.
