
A 14-year-old boy remains in serious condition after an accident involving his electric motorcycle and a car in Kapolei, as per officials. The incident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on Tuesday, near Kapolei Parkway and Kamaaha Avenue, according to Hawaii News Now.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded, after the teen, reportedly traveling eastbound on Kapolei Parkway in a marked bike lane, was struck by a vehicle. The 32-year-old woman driving the car was making a left turn onto Kamaaha Avenue, when she collided with the rear of the teen's motorcycle, this, according to KITV. The collision resulted in the teen being ejected onto the road.
Initial reports suggest the teen was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, potentially mitigating further injury, however, the condition of safety gear was not confirmed in another report from Hawaii News Now. The female driver involved in the accident was reportedly unharmed.
Authorities have indicated that neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol seems to be a factor in the collision, as per Hawaii News Now. The area of Kamaaha Avenue where the accident occurred was temporarily closed for the investigation, but has since been reopened, traffic flow has resumed back to normal.
