The Nashville community is grappling with the aftermath of a fatal shooting that occurred on Tuesday at the downtown WeGo bus station. In a swift response, local law enforcement has arrested a 15-year-old suspect identified as Shamari Bailey, connecting him to the death of 16-year-old Braden Caldwell after what was reported to be a physical fight between the two teenagers. According to the official Nashville Police Department, Bailey has now been charged with criminal homicide in Juvenile Court.

It was around 4 p.m. on Tuesday when Bailey and Caldwell reportedly engaged in a physical confrontation. The altercation resulted in two shots being fired, both striking Caldwell. He was quickly transported to Vanderbilt Pediatrics where he later succumbed to his injuries. The rapid identification of Bailey as a suspect was aided by WeGo security staff, who were already familiar with him and could help to quickly identify him as the alleged assailant. Bailey is reported to have fled the scene towards 5th Avenue North but was captured "without incident just before 7 p.m.," as police closed in.

In tracing the suspect's movements, Homicide, and TITANS Unit detectives collaborated closely with Central Precinct officers and WeGo security staff. This joint effort led them to Bailey's University Court home, where he was found and arrested.

Notably, the Nashville Police Department has not released further details about what may have sparked the tragic altercation, or if any additional charges are expected to follow.
