A 16-year-old teen from Havre de Grace has been charged as an adult in the shooting death of 14-year-old Jai'den Alexander Winchester in Aberdeen. The incident, which took place on a quiet street in the 200 block of Center Deen Avenue late Saturday night, left the community grappling with the sudden violence that claimed the life of a local high school student, as reported by WMAR2 News.
The Aberdeen Police Department and Emergency Medical Services responded to a call shortly before midnight. They found Winchester with a gunshot wound to the head. Attempts were made to save his life, but he was pronounced deceased on the scene. The 16-year-old, whose identity has not been disclosed, is facing serious charges, including 1st and 2nd-degree murder. Despite discussions on social media suggesting the event might have been accidental, detectives stated they have found no evidence to support this.
Jai'den Winchester was confirmed to be a Havre de Grace High School student. The school's principal, Brad Spence, expressed the school's grief in an email, saying, "The Havre de Grace Middle/High community is saddened to share the passing of Jai’den Winchester. We are deeply saddened at the loss of Jai’den and will always remember him as a friend and Warrior forever." The school has set up a crisis team to support students and staff, as detailed in a statement reported by Fox Baltimore.
