An 18-year-old man is dead following a crash that occurred while he was likely attempting to race another vehicle in the Channelview area. This incident was first reported by Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez on social media early this morning at 5:08 a.m. According to KHOU, the crash happened on North Silver Green Drive, within the confines of the Sterling Green neighborhood.
The young man allegedly lost control of his vehicle when he struck a curb and ended up crashing into a home's front yard. The sheriff mentioned that the driver’s 20-year-old sister was also in the car, but fortunately remained unharmed in the accident. The sheriff's office later relayed that the vehicles did not make contact with each other and that the driver of the other vehicle involved in the potential race chose to quickly take off from the scene.
The 18-year-old was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Details about the identity of the deceased or his sister have not been released at this time. Efforts to locate and identify the driver of the second vehicle are presumably underway, although specific details regarding the investigation have not been disclosed to the public.
