A fatal shooting yesterday evening in south Columbus has claimed the life of one individual. Authorities were dispatched to the 200 block of Highland Boulevard following a call regarding gunfire entering an apartment window.
Columbus police received a report at 8:50 p.m. about an injured person, as a Columbus public safety dispatcher mentioned, though the initial call lacked specific location details. Subsequently, a victim, now known to be a 19-year-old woman, self-transported to Nationwide Children's Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead at 9:18 p.m., as reported by WBNS and confirmed by NBC4i.
The Columbus Division of Police officers arrived at the initial scene of the incident, located just east of South High Street, near Seton South Apartments. As the dispatcher detailed, the victim was not a juvenile despite being taken to the children's hospital, as highlighted by FOX28.
Witnesses remained at the scene to speak with the officers after assisting the victim to the hospital, but no suspect information has surfaced as of this morning. The police are actively investigating the circumstances that led up to the shooting, and they have yet to release any details about a potential suspect. They urge anyone with information to contact the Columbus Police Homicide Unit or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, as reiterated by both WBNS and NBC4i.
