A young man's life came to a tragic end in Santa Ana this past Saturday when his car struck a palm tree. According to a press release from the Santa Ana Police Department, 20-year-old Marco Antonio Mares-Sanchez was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred near the intersection of Bristol Street and 1st Street.
Police were alerted to the collision at approximately 6:50 a.m. last Saturday. Upon arriving, officers discovered a sedan crashed into a palm tree on the median. Mares-Sanchez, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was unresponsive and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, as per the Santa Ana Police Department. The preliminary investigation suggests that the vehicle drove over the raised center median for reasons as yet unknown, before colliding with the palm tree.
The Santa Ana Police Department's Collision Investigation Unit (CIU) is handling the inquiry into the incident. While it is early in the investigation, police have disclosed that it is unclear whether intoxicants were a factor in the crash, as reported by the Santa Ana Police Department.
