A transaction in Rock Hill resulted in a 21-year-old being critically injured by a gunshot to the head during what police allege was a drug deal earlier yesterday. The shooting took place around 12:10 a.m. along Saluda Street, near Albright Road. Officers found the young man on the ground, promptly rushed to Piedmont Medical Center by EMS where he remained in critical condition, as confirmed by WBTV.

The scene of the crime also included a black pickup truck, within it Christopher Boyd, 21, and Demetris Franklin, 19, who initially told officers that the victim had attempted to rob them. But, further investigation, revealed a different story — one where Boyd and Franklin had arranged to meet the victim for selling illegal narcotics, according to WSOC-TV.

Upon the victim presenting a handgun in an apparent robbery attempt, Franklin responded by shooting him in the head, as per the sequence of events pieced together by Rock Hill Police Department detectives. In the aftermath, both Boyd and Franklin have been taken into custody. Boyd faces charges of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. Franklin's charges mirror Boyd's with the additional count of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, in a statement obtained by QCNews.

The identity of the victim has not been revealed as the investigation continues.
