Charges have been filed against a suspect in connection with the shooting death of a man on Beechnut Street earlier this month. According to a news release by the Houston Police Department, 28-year-old Carlos Chavez stands accused of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The incident, which occurred on November 7 around 4:10 p.m., resulted in the death of 23-year-old Jadrian Edwards and left another 23-year-old man wounded.
Chavez, after being identified by investigators, was charged in the 232nd State District Court, with a booking photo released in the update. As patrol officers had responded to the shooting in the parking lot at 10005 Beechnut Street, they found both victims inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds. Alongside the deceased Mr. Edwards was the unnamed second victim, transported to an area hospital later in stable condition. In the violent encounter, a woman and child, also in the vehicle, remained unharmed.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives H. Montealegre and K. Amri, who led the investigation, were called to the scene, as the Houston Police Department detailed. Chavez was arrested last Friday, by HPD Gang Division officers, who managed to take him into custody without incident. He has since been booked into the Harris County Jail.
Additional information on the progress of the case against Chavez is expected to be made public as legal proceedings continue.
