A man was fatally shot while disembarking from his vehicle outside of his Philadelphia home on Saturday evening, as reported by NBC10 Philadelphia. The incident took place on the 2000 block of East Cheltenham Avenue in the Northeast section of the city. Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace said the victim, a 41-year-old man, was discovered with a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead in less than 30 minutes at a nearby hospital.
The attack appeared to have been a targeted ambush. The suspect, operating a gold-colored Chevy SUV, pulled up beside the victim and fired at least seven shots. In a statement obtained by CBS News Philadelphia, Inspector Pace said that the vehicle the shooter had been in brazenly stopped at a traffic light, to remain for two cycles before speeding away.
No arrests have been made and a motive for the shooting has yet to be determined. However, the police have some leads, including a portion of the incident caught on a nearby surveillance camera. According to FOX29, as the investigation continues, authorities are hopeful that additional footage from the area will emerge and assist in piecing together the sequence of events.
The Philadelphia Police Department has urged anyone with information to step forward, and as in similar cases, a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction is being offered. Anyone with information should contact the Homicide Unit or submit an anonymous tip through the PPD tip line, FOX29 noted.
