Maryland State Police are actively investigating a hit-and-run incident that occurred in Anne Arundel County, resulting in the tragic death of a 7-year-old boy. According to a release from Maryland State Police, the boy was a passenger in a 2011 Mazda 3 when he fell out of the car window and was subsequently struck by an unidentified vehicle.
The incident took place last night, as Troopers from the Glen Burnie Barrack arrived at the scene near I-97, north of MD Route 32, shortly before 7:30 p.m. Emergency responders pronounced the young boy dead at the scene. As reported by Maryland State Police, Lorraine O’Neill, the 66-year-old grandmother of the child from Hagerstown, Maryland, was identified as the driver of the Mazda.
In a tragic twist of fate, the 7-year-old was traveling in the rear seat of the Mazda 3 when the window was opened, leading to his fatal fall. Maryland State Police are now seeking any information on a 2016-2019 Honda Civic, which they believe was involved in the accident and left the scene. This Honda is expected to damage the front left wheel well, indicative of the collision's point of impact.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could assist with the investigation is encouraged to contact the Maryland State Police Glen Burnie Barrack. Senior Trooper Bunger can be reached at 410-761-5130 or via email at [email protected].
