Calvin William Morris, 76, now faces charges of indecency with a child after a 14-year-old boy reported being groped by the elder man on his way home from Aguirre Junior High School in Channelview. According to Click2Houston, the incident took place last week and has since stirred concerns among the local community and authorities alike.
The suspect was not previously listed on the sex offender registry in Texas, which has raised questions and prompted an investigation into the oversight. As stated in an CW39 report, Morris has a record of sexually abusing children dating back to 1974, with convictions that resulted in sentences of probation.
The Channelview Independent School District responded swiftly to the incident, informing parents and sending out a statement emphasizing their commitment to student safety. "The safety of our students is our highest priority, and behavior that threatens their well-being will not be tolerated under any circumstance," Channelview ISD conveyed in a statement obtained by Click2Houston. In response, the district has deployed additional officers to monitor the area.
Morris was jailed on a $50,000 bond and is due back in court on February 11, 2025. This is not his first offense; court records show that in 1974 and again in 1982, he was charged with a sex offense against a child.
