The search for a 78-year-old man reported missing in St. Clair County concluded tragically when his body was found in a canal near Anchor Bay, local officials reported. According to CBS News Detroit, the St. Clair County Dive Team and Clay Township police discovered him Monday night after he was last seen around 4:30 p.m. that day.
The man's family reported him missing, prompting an urgent search by authorities, who noticed a broken dock board and other signs that suggested his entry into the water at his residence on Anchor Bay Drive, this incident unfortunately is not isolated, as Michigan has had a series of drownings this year with The Detroit News reporting a visible increase in such incidents compared to the previous year.
In a press release quoted on WWJ Newsradio, St. Clair County Sheriff Mat King expressed his condolences, stating, "Drownings are an especially tragic event, for the victim, their family, and the responders. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family during this time." The victim's identity had not been released pending notification of next of kin.
