Motorists in Aberdeen should brace themselves for a series of ramp closures as preservation work commences on the US 101 Chehalis River Bridge this mid-November. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has contracted crews to begin under the southbound US 101/H Street ramp to the bridge, aiming to replace aging infrastructure and maintain this critical transportation link.
According to WSDOT, the first closure occurred overnight yesterday for the installation of temporary supports, and the ramp has since reopened, with the next scheduled closure on Dec. 5 to lower the ramp after old rocker bearings are replaced the travelers endured closures, detours, but that's the price for ensuring safety and longevity of the bridge that sees them to their destinations. Once this initial phase is complete on the southbound side, a similar procedure will take place starting Friday, Dec. 6 to address the northbound bridge ramp to US 101/G Street. During this time, drivers will need to navigate detours via the East State Street off-ramp to circumvent the closures.
For drivers planning their travel, awareness of closure schedules is key. The southbound US 101/H Street ramp to the Chehalis River Bridge will close from 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14 to 5 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15 and, again from 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5 to 5 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, as noted in WSDOT's official announcement. The northbound Chehalis River Bridge ramp to US 101/G Street is on tap for closures from 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 to 5 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, and again we will see the gotta make a note on our calendars type of closure starting at 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2 to 5 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2025.
