At Pine Trails Park in Parkland, thousands gathered for the 13th Annual Walk-Off For Cancer event, organized by the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation. The event included a 5K run and walk, along with food, drinks, and opportunities to meet organizer and cancer survivor, MLB player Anthony Rizzo. As reported by WSVN.

Indeed, having the event take place in Parkland, where Rizzo hails from, the turnout signified not just support for the cause but a union of community and pastimes. Despite being a World Series player for the New York Yankees, Rizzo holds close to the community of Parkland, where his roots and formative experiences uncoil, as Parkland Talk details.

The aspirations of the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation are not limited by geography. To include supporters nationwide, a virtual participation option was introduced, allowing supporters across the United States to join the cause remotely. Those who couldn't attend in person could still receive their gift bags, featuring an event t-shirt and a Nike drawstring bag, by post.

Importantly, the event managed to raise nearly $1 million, a sizable fund dedicated to aiding children and families grappling with cancer. "It means a lot. This community, to have this many people show up for us, it means so much," Abby Suarez, executive director of the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation, told WSVN. The proceeds are set to also bolster research efforts at institutions such as Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.

The event schedule was well-organized, starting with registration at 7:15 a.m., followed by a stage program at 8:30 a.m., and the walk/run at 9:00 a.m. The top performers in the 5K Timed Run received trophies and had the chance to take a memorable photo with Rizzo, making it a day where sports, support, and survival came together.
