Apache Junction residents can provide public comment on proposed sales tax ordinances at a City Council hearing on January 21, 2025. According to the City of Apache, the meeting will be held at the Apache Junction City Council Chambers, located at 300 E. Superstition Boulevard, starting at 7 p.m.
The city is considering extending a transaction privilege tax, which has been in place since 2015, to fund payments to the Arizona Public Safety Personnel Retirement System. Currently set to end on September 1, 2026, the tax could be extended through September 1, 2036, pending city council approval. If extended, the new tax would take effect immediately after the current one expires. This proposal was outlined in a notice posted on Thursday, as reported by the City of Apache.
The second ordinance proposes extending a tax that helps maintain the city's public rights-of-way, which is set to expire on March 1, 2025. The tax, currently at two-tenths of one percent, funds the maintenance, repair, construction, and replacement of public infrastructure. If approved, the extension would begin on March 2, 2025, and last for ten years, until March 1, 2035.
