
An Apopka woman has been charged with multiple felonies following a car crash that resulted in the death of her 4-year-old daughter and injuries to another child. Caitlyn Swatkowski, 34, is facing charges, which include DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, and child neglect with great bodily harm, according to a report by WFTV. The incident on September 22 on State Road 429 took a tragic turn when Swatkowski's vehicle crashed before mile marker 35, near Yothers Road.
After a "comprehensive investigation," the Apopka Police Department recently obtained arrest warrants for Swatkowski. The accident reportedly happened around 1 p.m. and led to Swatkowski being additionally charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child and DUI, causing serious bodily injury. Police disclosed Swatkowski's Tuesday arrest while attending an unrelated court hearing in Volusia County. She was subsequently booked into the Volusia County Jail, per ClickOrlando report.
The second child injured in the accident suffered severe injuries, forever impacted by that tragic September day. While details about Swatkowski's unrelated court appearance are unclear, the arrest highlights how actions can have far-reaching consequences within the justice system.
