Starting November 14, residents of Arizona can purchase permits to cut down their own Christmas trees in the Tonto and Coconino National Forests. The permit for Tonto National Forest costs $15, with free permits available for holders of the Every Kid Outdoors pass, according to ABC15.

Tree cutting in the Tonto National Forest begins on November 23, shortly after permits go on sale. Michelle Williams, a Timber Resource Specialist, stated, “Selecting a Christmas tree from the Tonto National Forest is a cherished tradition for many families, while for others, it's a new experience that may soon become a beloved tradition,” as reported by the ABC15.

Christmas tree cutting permits are available at the Supervisor’s Office in Phoenix and ranger stations in Payson and Globe. The Tonto National Forest website provides details, including maps and instructions. The Coconino National Forest is offering 1,300 permits, with 400 for the Flagstaff Ranger District and 900 for the Mongollon Rim District, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Permits can be purchased through Recreation.gov, which also lists permits for other national forests. Be sure to read all instructions before purchasing, as stated by 12 News.
