Tampa residents faced disruptions Tuesday afternoon, as a key road near ZooTampa was closed off by law enforcement. Tampa police were on the hunt for an armed individual, reportedly carrying a gun, which resulted in the shutdown of W. Sligh Ave between N. Boulevard and N. Willow Ave.

The search began after law enforcement received a call around 2 p.m. concerning a person armed with a gun in the 900 block of W. Sligh Ave, WFLA reported.

The Tampa Police Department, after arriving on scene, did not locate the suspect and community members were advised that the suspect was possibly still nearby, according to a news release obtained by WTSP.

This incident prompted a considerable police presence and investigative activity in the area, which in turn led to traffic advisories. Motorists were advised to find alternative routes, as the closure was still in effect by late afternoon, with the roadway not being reopened at least until after 4 p.m., as per FOX 13 News.
