Tragedy struck in broad daylight on the affluent streets of Beverly Hills this past weekend when a couple was violently confronted and robbed by a band of armed thieves. KTLA reports that the incident took place just before 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, at the intersection of Rodeo Drive and Brighton Way. A man and a woman stood outside a boutique when four suspects accosted them, one brandishing a gun among the group. Amidst the struggle, the perpetrators managed to abscond with two designer handbags containing valuables, including cash and cell phones, one of which was later recovered.
Witnesses saw the suspects, all dressed in dark clothing and hooded sweatshirts, fleeing up Rodeo Drive before disappearing into an alleyway. CBS Los Angeles notes that although the suspects attempted to also seize the man's jewelry, that attempt was thwarted.
Footage obtained by KTLA captures a segment of the chaotic scene, including the moments the suspects ran from the location, at least one clutching what appeared to be one of the stolen handbags.
As authorities descended upon the scene, the victims instead sought their medical support. They were hospitalized for injuries sustained during the heist. The specifics of their condition were not immediately available, but medical personnel from the Beverly Hills Fire Department initially responded, as per KTLA. Further updates on this matter, including detailed descriptions of the suspects or arrests, have yet to be relayed to the public.
