In the heart of Auburn, the historic courthouse echoed with the sounds of a community celebrating a profound act of unity on November 23, as Placer County observed National Adoption Day, an occasion that has become a beacon of hope for numerous foster children and adoptive families. This year, the annual event was marked by the finalization of 12 adoptions within its walls, a continuation of the 23 adoptions that had already been woven into the fabric of families throughout Placer County in 2024, according to Placer County's official announcement.
Not just a formal proceeding but a heartfelt celebration, the National Adoption Day event was presided over by Judge Todd Irby, who found great personal meaning in these unions, declaring "One of the true sustaining joys and privileges of my life as a judge," he continued explaining the profound impact of his role, "is to preside over the process of creating and bringing families together," Irby considers the opportunity to solidify these bonds between adoptive parents and children as a cherished aspect of his judicial duties. During the event, attendees witnessed the culmination of numerous emotional journeys to parenthood, and Trina, along with her partner Edward, shared a particularly touching narrative, "We had [our daughter] for two years, and there were moments we thought she might return to her birth mother," Trina recounted, according to an interview, manifesting a story where apprehension and hope intertwined, but concluded with, "Looking back, I'm grateful for every step of the process. Now, I can’t imagine life without her. She’s our world," as per the Placer County.
The event was not solely about completing legal formalities, it also served as a platform for advocacy and outreach with the attendees including new and veteran parents alike, encouraging others to open their homes and hearts, Tea, another adoptive parent who celebrated finalizing the adoption of two brothers, put forth a call to action, "If you have an open heart and space, please join in the journey because there's nothing like it,” she said, extending an invitation to the community to participate in transformative acts of love and commitment – a sentiment shared by many present at the celebration, as reported by the Placer County.
