An SUV slammed into a home in Aurora on Sunday night, causing a chaotic scene after rupturing a gas line and prompting emergency evacuations of neighboring houses, as KDVR reports. The crash occurred near North Vaughn Street and North Uvalda Street around 9:45 p.m., when the vehicle hit a parked car that subsequently smashed into the residence, leading to a significant gas leak.
The driver of the vehicle fled before authorities could arrive on the scene, this hit-and-run incident has led to an ongoing investigation by the Aurora Police Department to find the perpetrator, as stated by the fire officials in a social media post obtained by Sentinel Colorado, meanwhile, the occupants of the house were fortunate enough to escape uninjured. Emergency crews, in response, had to cut through concrete and excavate near the home's curb to reach and subsequently seal the damaged gas line.
Safety hazards associated with gas leaks include the potential for explosions and the risk that gases in high concentration can displace oxygen, leading to possible suffocation as well as physical symptoms like dizziness and nausea, these risks were mitigated by the immediate evacuation and the prompt response of the utility emergency response team, as reported by CBS News.
