Aurora Police are currently piecing together the events of an early Saturday morning tragedy that left one man dead following a multi-vehicle crash. As reported by Denver7, the collision occurred around 7:15 a.m. near Tower Road and E. 40th Avenue, involving a speeding Jeep, a Chevy Cobalt, and a Subaru struck by debris.
The driver of the Chevy succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital, a detail that has been echoed across local news outlets. The at-fault driver, 22-year-old Alexis Ayala Gutierrez of Denver, was also hospitalized but will be faced with reckoning with his outstanding warrant for an unrelated reckless driving offense in Jefferson County, as well as charges from the current incident. According to KDVR, the bond for the warrant stands at $10,000 personal recognizance.
Further investigation is in the process to ascertain whether intoxication played a role alongside the excessive speed in causing the crash. The Subaru's driver was unharmed despite the chaotic scene in the Green Valley Ranch neighborhood. Northbound Tower Road had been brought to a standstill for several hours while the scene was thoroughly investigated by detectives, reopening just before 1:50 p.m.
