As winter sets in, travelers are turning their sights to warmer climes, and Austin has emerged as a toasty favorite. According to a MySanAntonio report, a recent WalletHub study placed Austin at number four on the list of best warm-weather travel destinations for 2024. With a score of 67.84 out of a possible 100 points, it indicates a slight drop from last year, yet Austin maintains its appeal with a top ten ranking in attractions and warm weather activities.
Austin wasn't the only Texas city basking in the warmth of popularity, Dallas-Fort Worth clinched the number three spot, besting Austin which had previously topped the list in 2021 and landed in second place in 2022, having made notable strides in travel costs and conveniences, the cities bustling with an energy that beckoned travelers, even as they slipped in rank. This data was supported by findings from CultureMap Austin, which also highlighted the city's efficacious Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and near-constant sunshine contributing to its high score in the weather category.
WalletHub's comparative analysis spanned 37 factors including local costs, weather, and safety—the latter seeing Austin at a modest 25th position. Other Texan cities graced the list, Houston-The Woodlands secured the sixth spot, and San Antonio-New Braunfels, which previously held the fifth position in 2023, now sits at eleventh. In the realm of colder preferences, Atlanta, Georgia claimed the top rank as the frigid favorite for winter voyages, as reported by MySanAntonio.
