The City of Austin has recently been shaken by a spate of violent crimes, with the suspect targeting multiple gas stations over two days. According to a statement from the Austin Police Department, 37-year-old Hispanic male Alexander Sanabria has been apprehended and is allegedly responsible for this string of offenses beginning November 24, and continuing into the following day.
Incidents reported by victims and captured on surveillance began with gunshots being fired inside the All-Star gas station late at night; the subsequent robberies showed a pattern of threats and intimidation leading to thefts, including a case of beer and cash from different locations. None of the victims were physically injured during these confrontations. However, the suspect discharged a firearm within the premises on multiple occasions, as per the City of Austin. In a sequence that spanned the city, APD officers responded to various calls of robbery and aggravated assault where the suspect's actions escalated throughout the ordeal, and each encounter grew more fraught and uncertain for those involved.
Sanabria was ultimately spotted and pursued by a coordinated effort from multiple law enforcement agencies including the Austin Police Department, Pflugerville Police Department, Travis County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Public Safety, and Round Rock Police Department, culminating in a high-speed chase, his eventual crash and arrest sporting the jewelry same shoes from earlier crimes, the hoodie and a Beatles shirt were discovered within the crashed vehicle, as reported by the City of Austin. A probable cause search revealed a black handgun, completing the connection to the violent holdups witnessed by many over those days.
He now faces a host of charges connected to these incidents as authorities continue their investigation. The Austin Police Department expressed gratitude towards the assisting agencies that collaborated in Sanabria's timely capture, emphasizing the potential danger he posed to the wider community, the City of Austin noted.
