A Battle Creek man was arrested yesterday after allegedly throwing two Molotov cocktails at a local residence. The incident took place on Piper Avenue, prompting a quick response from law enforcement. According to the Battle Creek Police Department, the first Molotov cocktail did not ignite and was not reported by the homeowners. The situation escalated around 2 a.m. when the suspect reportedly returned and threw a second Molotov cocktail, which exploded on the home's front porch. FOX 17 reported that the resident, a legal gun owner, fired shots at the suspect, which led neighbors to call 911 after hearing the gunfire.
According to WOODTV, the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Mylik Williams, was out on bond for an unrelated case at the time of his arrest. The Calhoun County Prosecutor has confirmed that Williams' bond has been revoked on pending cases after he was charged with arson, attempted arson, and five counts of assault with intent to murder from the unrelated case. Driving past the home around 3 a.m., arresting officers saw the suspect, and pursuant to their investigation, officers believe the home was targeted in a premeditated attack.
No injuries were reported from inside the home, and the property sustained only minor damage. After the chaotic events, Williams was arraigned and Calhoun County Jail remains in custody as detailed by the reporting from WWMT.
As this situation continues to unfold, William’s preliminary examination is set for December. His bond has been stated at $20,000 by the courts.
