An accident on Interstate 95 is causing significant traffic issues as all southbound lanes near the Duval-St. Johns County line was brought to a standstill. According to Action News Jax, the incident occurred near mile marker 330, focusing the disruption one mile north of the County Road 210 exit.
The crash involved multiple vehicles, including a semi-truck that reportedly carried Busch Beer when it overturned, causing havoc on the highway. As officials worked to clear the scene, traffic was heavily congested, trailing back for miles. With efforts ongoing, St. Johns Fire Rescue, shared by News4Jax, anticipated the interstate would remain closed for a protracted period as the cleanup continued well into the night.
The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed to Action News Jax that injuries were sustained in the crash. At the same time, St. Johns County Fire Rescue updated that six people were hurt, but only one required hospitalization, who was in serious but stable condition. Traffic was being diverted to State Road 9B to help alleviate the bottleneck and provide motorists with an alternate route.
Additionally, there was a fuel leak stemming from the truck, which was quickly contained, with assurances from fire rescue that no hazardous materials were involved, as detailed by First Coast News. The timing of the incident, around 6 p.m. yesterday, posed an additional challenge for travelers heading into the weekend. As the affected portion of I-95 saw lane closures persisting beyond 9:30 p.m., the impact of the overturned semi-truck extended beyond the immediate vicinity, highlighting the fragility of our thoroughfares in the face of unforeseen disruptions.
